It’s almost fall. I know, I know. Shhh…. sorry.
Mirvish has some sensational productions on tap for us – including two of my favourite musical superstars – Chilina Kennedy and Louise Pitre! You cannot go wrong with either of these powerhouses.
Starting September 17, the Ed Mirvish Theatre will be home to The Band’s Visit, with Chilina Kennedy and Sasson Gabay. Not only does The Band’s Visit showcase one of my favourite performers; it also walked away with 10 – yes TEN – Tonys, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book!
Also starting September 17, Piaf/Dietrich will bring the CAA Theatre to life. Louise Pitre and Jayne Lewis are set to enthrall us and take us through the relationship between Marlene Dietrich and Edith Piaf. Check out this sneak peek and a bit more background about the show:
Toward the end of September, Mirvish adds The Girl From the North Country to its amazing line up of offerings. Opening September 28 at the Royal Alexandra Theatre, this musical will enchant its audience, Dylan fans or not.
From the Mirvish website:
Award-winning playwright Conor McPherson beautifully weaves the iconic songbook of Bob Dylan into this powerful new show full of hope, heartbreak, and soul.
Don’t miss the unique opportunity to experience Girl From The North Country, a “magnificent” (Evening Standard), and “piercingly beautiful” (The Independent) production brought vividly to life by an extraordinary company of actors and musicians.
“Pure stage magic. Dylan fans will find it fascinating and ingenious.” (The Times)
One of my most-watched videos in my YouTube playlist is this version of “I Want You” from this musical. I can’t count the number of times I’ve played this one. It’s enchanting, moving, eloquent, and expressive, and I absolutely adore it.
I’m a summer girl, but all this gets me excited for September.
